1. Best Network Certifications 2026: Understanding the Landscape
All three are associate-level networking certifications, but they come from very different places and serve very different purposes.

CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) is a vendor-specific certification from Cisco. According to IDC’s Quarterly Trackers for Q4 2025, Cisco held 27.6% of the global Ethernet switch market and 30.6% of the global router market — the largest single share in both segments. CCNA spans both routing and switching domains, making Cisco skills directly relevant across most enterprise environments worldwide. The exam code is 200-301; it has been a single consolidated exam since 2020, with a content refresh in February 2026 that updated AI, automation, and troubleshooting topics.
CompTIA Network+ is vendor-neutral. It does not care whether you are running Cisco, Juniper, or Aruba — it tests whether you understand how networks work, full stop. JNCIA-Junos (Juniper Networks Certified Associate — Junos) is a vendor-specific certification from Juniper Networks, now part of HPE. The passing score is approximately 825 out of 1000 on Cisco’s scaled scoring system — not officially published but consistently reported at this threshold. Question types include multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, and simulation-based labs where you configure or troubleshoot a virtual IOS device by typing actual CLI commands under time pressure.

JNCIA-Junos JN0-106
A 90-minute exam with 65 multiple-choice questions — no simulations. This makes it structurally simpler to sit, though Junos-specific content requires you to understand Juniper’s OS, not just generic networking theory. The defining Junos difference is the commit model. In Cisco IOS, a command takes effect immediately on Enter. 4. Where Aspiring Engineers Go Wrong
Treating certification as the destination, not the passport
Before you open a study guide, look at 20–30 job listings for junior network engineer or NOC technician in your target market. What do they actually ask for? The answer varies significantly by city and employer — and it is more reliable than any market generalisation, including this one.
Underestimating the CCNA simulations
Candidates who study theory diligently but skip lab time consistently struggle with simulation questions. You cannot read your way to passing CCNA. Set up Cisco Packet Tracer and actually configure OSPF, VLANs, and NAT from scratch. If you cannot build a basic OSPF adjacency (a working relationship between two routers that exchange routing information with each other) without checking notes, you are not ready.
Ignoring subnetting until it is too late
All three exams test IP addressing and subnetting. In CCNA, subnetting questions appear throughout — not just in one domain. The fix is the same for all three: practise until you can work through /25 to /30 calculations under 60 seconds mentally. There are no calculators in the exam room.
Confusing Junos CLI with IOS CLI
